The age-old question can only be answered by you. The truth is that autism is what you make of it. Being autistic means that you are living life on hard mode and it definitely isn’t a golden pass to high achievements but with the right mindset you can turn your difference into a real asset.
How do I turn my difference into an asset?
Know yourself: A successful person, is someone who knows themselves. Having a good sense of your skills and weaknesses will allow you to redirect your energy to what you are good at and what you want to be good at. Adjust your life to make it work for you. You control your life, not the other way around.
Invest in yourself: You have exceedingly niche interests? Great. Loose yourself in your research. Take classes on that topic. Become an expert. Socialise with people who have the same interests. Maybe consider making a career out of it.
Be bold: Go where your perspective is valued. You are atypical, your brain is wired in a way that most people’s aren’t. In other words, what is difficult for most people may come easily to you. You have a unique perspective which is rare and valuable.
Own it: Your uniqueness is powerful. Claim your difference and set your boundaries. You will be happier!
Communicate: Allistics often fall short on neurodivergence. Kindly take the matter in your own hands and educate people.
